my own little pair of Vicini pony shoes – a salute to the genius that is Giuseppe Zanotti…
By Noa • Jul 11th, 2009 • Category: Lead Story, personal picksIn the realms of the super duper shoe designers newbies try to get in but their attempts are shattered time and again. To be one of the true Gods of shoe design one needs to be extremely gifted, have that va va voom, the za za zoom, that something that makes every woman feel like a Goddess when she steps into a pair of your shoes…
I will refuse to accept any arguements that there is anyone better than the true Master, the only and only Manolo Blahnik (yes, he is Holy and we should all consider it our duty to build him shrines where we can worship him day and night). sooo we’re over that initial truth which needs to be cleared before we can move on. So who else do we allow within the gates of shoe designer heaven?!
One man who may not be as much of a household name as Blahnik or Louboutin or Choo (for choffs) is the Italian master craftsman Giuseppe Zanotti. Household name or not, his work is absolutely beautiful. Be it gorgeous fish bone sandals such as these here (available at Net-a-porter) or the super sexy ankle boots with mirror studded heels:
And because his creations are so beautiful we are happy to take that extra minute to read through his interview with The Times, some excerpts:
What do you consider attractive in a woman?
The feet: I find beauty in the fact that the foot and ankle represent the whole body.
What is your one piece of fashion or beauty advice?
The easiest, sexiest, most perfect shoe is a flat sandal with a bit of sparkle. I love it. My favourite is when I’m somewhere cold, like Russia, and I see a woman wearing sandals, white jeans and a fur coat.
Biggest fashion faux pas?
When I started designing I thought all women were different – now I know that they are all the same. A woman wants to feel beautiful and contemporary.
What aspect of fashion do you hate the most?
Many designers condition women into fashion slaves. I think that women need to shop for fashion as they do for food, asparagus from one place and tomatoes from another. I don’t like the pressure of creating fashion victims.
These days, do you think there is as much pressure on men as on women to look good?
No. Since Cleopatra, women have always had more pressure to look good and nothing has changed that. It is difficult to create an elegant man.
Aaannnd, what does the genius of Giuseppe Zanotti have to remotely do with my life?! I own a gorgeous gorgeous pair of pony skin heeled sandals from this amazing shoe designer through his brand Vicini, et voila:

These gorgeous designer Vicini pony skin heeled sandals were a gorgeous present that set someone back about €400, someone who knew I would love them, made me try them on and wouldn’t listen to anything I said, just saying “they are definitely yours, they were made for you…they couldn’t possibly belong to anyone else”.
And just how special do these make me feel when I slip into them…no words can describe…
